Charity registration, package deal, test press raffle!

It has been a bit silent on this page over the last months, but rest assured that a lot has happened (and is still happening) behind the curtains at Oaken Palace Records!

I am delighted to inform you that Oaken Palace Records has finally been registered as a charity with the UK Charities Commission! This was a very important step for me to establish the credibility of this undertaking in the eyes of all supporters – both bands and fans – of the label. Now I can provide you with an official testimony that proves the 100% charitable purpose of Oaken Palace Records beyond my personal promise. The label is listed in the UK Register of Charities, and you can find it by entering the charity number 1154786 in the search field.

To celebrate this significant milestone in the history of Oaken Palace Records, you can now buy all current releases in one package for a reduced price in the Oaken Palace Online Store. And don’t forget that you can get all our releases in the US via Tedium House/Midheaven and in Europe via Sonic Rendezvous!

Finally, James Plotkin has finished mastering the upcoming Plurals album “Bugenès Melissae”, and the test pressings have been ordered. They should arrive just before Christmas, and you can win 1 of just 8 hand-numbered copies by liking and sharing the recent post about charity registration on the Oaken Palace Facebook Page. More info, samples, and artwork will follow soon!

A big thank you to all of you who continue to support this unique endeavour! This is as much your achievement as it is mine – so keep on spreading the word, buy Oaken Palace releases, and help to save endangered species!

Plurals: Bugenès Melissae

The upcoming release of UK-Droners Plurals has a name: Bugenès Melissae!
The title refers to the ancient Mediterranean myth that bees can be generated from a cow’s carcass, and can be translated as “oxen-born bees”. Here is an old description of the ritual:

“Build a house, ten cubits high, with all the sides of equal dimensions, with one door, and four windows, one on each side; put an ox into it, thirty months old, very fat and fleshy; let a number of young men kill him by beating him violently with clubs, so as to mangle both flesh and bones, but taking care not to shed any blood; let all the orifices, mouth, eyes, nose etc. be stopped up with clean and fine linen, impregnated with pitch; let a quantity of thyme be strewed under the reclining animal, and then let windows and doors be closed and covered with a thick coating of clay, to prevent the access of air or wind. Three weeks latter let the house be opened, and let light and fresh air get access to it, except from the side from which the wind blows strongest. After eleven days you will find the house full of bees, hanging together in clusters, and nothing left of the ox but horns, bones and hair.”

The album will be mastered for vinyl by the mighty James Plotkin, known for his mastering works for bands like Nadja, Sunn O))), Isis, Pelican, and Earth. Expect more updates on artwork, tracklist, etc. very soon!

Eternal Tapestry to release new album on Oaken Palace Records

Portland-based psych-rockers Eternal Tapestry will release a new full-length on Oaken Palace Records, completing the second round of releases, and probably the last in 2013.

After two fantastic releases on Thrill Jockey in 2012 and a spaced-out jam at this year’s edition of Roadburn Festival, that could even compete with the parallel performance of Electric Wizard, ETAP are now back in the studio to record some new jams that will be dedicated to the critically endangered Pygmy three-toed sloth.

Head over to the releases-section for more info, videos, and of course music!

Flipper by Nadja is now available!

Finally, the Nadja LPs arrived today! All pre-orders have been packed and will be shipped first thing tomorrow. The 100% recycled sleeves look great, and the records just sound massive.

This album might not be as heavy as previous Nadja outputs in terms of distortion, but it definitely is in terms of deep (sea) bass! If you haven’t ordered your copy yet, you can do so at the Oaken Palace online store.
Package deals are still available, so check out the albums by Parallel Lines /// and Caudal as well!
